Dr. Krystal L. Williams (PI)

Dr. Krystal L. Williams is an Assistant Professor of Higher Education Assistant at the University of Georgia Louise McBee Institute of Higher Education. Her research interests lay at the intersection of race, equity and education policy issues, with a focus on marginalized groups in STEM and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Dr. Williams directs the Education Policy & Equity Research Collective (Ed_PERC)— the umbrella research entity for C_SERT. She attended the University of Michigan where she completed her doctoral studies in Higher Education and Public Policy in the Center for the Study of Higher and Postsecondary Education. She also attended Clark Atlanta University where she earned a BS and MS in mathematics and graduated valedictorian.


Student Research Associates


Ijaz Ahmad

Ijaz Ahmad is the lead graduate student research assistant. He is a doctoral student at the University of Georgia (UGA) McBee Institute of Higher Education (MIHE). He earned his master’s degree in Higher Education from Tampere University (Finland). During his master’s, he worked as an intern at the European University Association (EUA) in Brussels, Belgium. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Engineering & Technology Peshawar (Pakistan). He formerly served in various managerial positions in different public sector organizations in Pakistan, including the University of Engineering & Technology Taxila. His research interests include higher education funding policies, institutional change, and institutional entrepreneurship.

Imani Callan

Imani Callan is a doctoral student at the McBee Institute of Higher Education. Prior to attending the University of Georgia, she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Criminology, a Master’s of Science in Higher Education Administration on the Enrollment Management Track, as well as a Certificate in Student Life & Development from the University of Miami. Previously, she worked as an Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admission at the University of Miami for four years. Her research interests include: diversity, equity, and inclusion within enrollment management; access to higher education for historically underrepresented students; and retention of historically underrepresented students.

 

Will Walker

Will Walker, Jr. is a doctoral student in the PhD program at the Louise McBee Institute of Higher Education. He holds an M.S.Ed. in Higher Education and Student Affairs from Indiana University and a B.A. in Leadership Studies from the University of Richmond. Will has professional experiences in residence life/housing and grant writing/management. Currently, Will’s research interest center topics such as student engagement, governance, and organizational change. Will is also interested in research that considers how diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging are achieved in post-secondary institutions.

Shriya Rasale

Shriya Rasale is a sophomore at the University of Georgia and an undergraduate research associate, pursuing a major in Computer Science. Apart from her academics, she actively participates in computer-related groups like Girls.Code(), GirlsWhoCode, and UGAHacks. She's also a member of the Bollywood Fusion dance team Shikaari and ICX, an organization that brings together the South Asian community through events. She is passionate about promoting race-gender equality through tech empowerment and creating opportunities for marginalized groups who are often not represented across STEM fields.

Lilly Steiner

Lilly Steiner is a Senior at the University of Georgia and an undergraduate research associate. She is studying Biology, with a minor in Human Services, in hopes of pursuing an MD/PhD. She serves as President of Cancer Support Community, is a Chemistry Learning Assistant, and has held two officer positions in her sorority. She also is the lead pre-professional ambassador for pre-health pathways at UGA, where she gets to motivate and guide students on their educational journey, encouraging her passion for education research further.
